Did WordPress 2.2 Update Today

This is just a quick post to test everything and list what I did for future reference. Who knows maybe somebody will get an idea from it. I just got finished with a bunch of little changes to my set up and wanted to get WordPress 2.2 while the custom stuff is fresh in my mind.

I have been stressing a lot lately over duplicate content issues, and some of my changes are because of that.

  • <meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow" />

I put this on all category and archive pages. I’m just wanting Google to index the main page and the individual pages.

  • Make a note not to hit Preview before a Save. I just did and have to redo some. This is my first post with FCKEditor plugin and that is new for me. It’s a new 2.4.3 version and has a lot more html friendly features. Download here from Google Code.
  • Grabbed a hack to put nofollow on the Blogrolls links and can select which ones. Continue Here…

Social Bookmarking

There are hundreds of social bookmarking sites now. Some are very well known like and Digg, but others are obscure start ups.

You can see evidence of what I think of the trend by checking the cluster of little icons at the bottom of each post. They are the visible part of the Social Bookmarks 3.2 WordPress plugin. Continue Here…

Affiliate Marketing

I’m sure there are a few that don’t have a clue what an affiliate is or what an affiliate web site does. Affiliates are about bringing possible customers to meet online merchants. It’s like a virtual introduction that combines product promotion with advertising.

You for sure have passed through some affiliate web sites and didn’t even know it. Their job is to gain visibility through Search Engine Marketing and hand off their traffic to trusted merchants that they have a formal relationship with. If a sale is made there is a small commission from the merchant to the affiliate. The customer pays no more than if he had gone directly to the merchant site. It’s a very competitive and ever changing environment.

Most affiliates and merchants are linked together by Affiliate Networks like that handle all the sales tracking. Give them a try if you ever feel like taking a stab at this type of Internet business. They have high standards and are respected in the industry.

Comments Spam

Because comments spam is such a big problem with blogs I’ll be working extra hard formulating plans to thwart the plans of the dark side. I intend to be guided by Matt Cutt’s set up he has here.

The ones that I find will get the ax. The first night after this blog had been installed it received it’s first comment spam. That shows the extent of the problem. Hopefully the automated spam chopper will get most of the crud, but time will tell.
